The Land
The project will be constructed on a piece of land assembled from 29 contiguous parcels purchased from individual landowners, adding up to 16.2 acres. The land is currently zoned for commercial use and will be formally designated as “Entertainment District” by The Cayman Islands government.
GTED Ltd will purchase, consolidate, and own the land for the project. The purchase of the lots is carried out through a Caycoin offering (see caycoins.com)
The Arena
The arena will be a the first of its kind in the Caribbean. Spanning 188,500 sq.ft., the facility will be a multi-purpose ice & event center including an NHL-size rink with 10,000 seats, 26 private suites, and numerous restaurant and amenities.
The arena will play host to:
- •NBA, NHL and NCAA basketball and hockey events
- •A-List concerts
- •WBA and UFC title fights
- •Trade and Commerce shows
The arena will be operated year-round and capable of being quickly converted for live events such as concerts, floor sports, and exhibition spectacles. Finally, given the high number of residents who hail from Canada and the US, the arena will become a daily or weekly destination for older players who simply love to play the gamer of hockey, and by training schools for children interested in hockey and figure skating.
The entire facility, including parking, will occupy approximately 5 acres.
The naming rights for the arena will be available to third-party advertisers.
The Hotel
The hotel will be designed and built as a five-star property with 350 to 375 rooms. It will feature a music theme and include a 2,500 seat amphitheater within the hotel itself.
GTED Ltd is currently in discussion with the Universal Music Group to operate the hotel under its brand “UMusic Hotels”.
The presence of UMG will expand the revenue streams normally available to hotels, such branded and concert merchandise, live performance and concerts, and sound studios.
UMG will empower the hotel to instantly gain international visibility in terms of bookings and marketing.
The Boardwalk
The boardwalk completes the amenities of the District. It will be designed as a high-end shopping and dining destination.
The boardwalk will cover an area of 170,000 sq.ft and include 8 world-class restaurants and 25 luxury retail shops.
GTED Ltd is entertaining bids from several groups to operate and manage the boardwalk facilities.
