Bringing the beach to life

The District will be developed on 16.2 acres directly on Seven Mile Beach, with over 900 feet (270m) of ocean front. This ultimate location will also be a walkable distance from George Town’s cruise ship hub, which greets two million visitors each year. Seven Mile beach consistently ranks in the top five beaches in the Caribbean and top 15 in the world.

The District

Music City Cayman will be a dedicated commercial District to George Town. The District will include an Arena (10,000 seats), a five-star hotel (375 rooms and 2500 amphitheater), and a waterfront boardwalk with 170,000 sq.ft of Luxury waterfront/Retail Space.

What is to come

A-list concerts, trade shows, NHL and NBA exhibition games, UFC and WBA title fights and much more will be brought to the island throughout the year.

Why the Cayman Islands?

The Cayman Islands are the economic heavy weights of the Caribbean. With a population of 84,000 people, its GDP per capita is $103 000 USD, the highest in the world. It also ranks among the best in the world in terms of highest hotel occupancy hotel in the luxury category. The nation is also a short flight away Miami, Tampa Bay, Houston, Dallas, Washington, New York, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Montreal and Toronto. In other words, the premiere destination for perfect weather and first-world uncrowded lifestyle in the western hemisphere. For a project of this size, Music City Cayman is the logical choice for creating the Caribbean entertainment hub.

Is this really feasible?

Several feasibility studies were funded between 2015 and 2020 to validate the concept, which began, at its origin, as a wish of The Cayman Islands government to enliven the living experience of residents and cruise passengers alike. KPMG conducted the Arena study, which also concluded that the business case was stronger with the addition of the hotel and the boardwalk (where restaurants and shops would be located). The hotel concept was developed jointly with Universal Music Group, who became highly intrigued by the possibility of building a flagship UMusic Hotel on the island, to spread its music-themed brand of hotels. Other parties also joined the discussion, including Hyatt, IHG, Marriott and Apple Leisure. Finally, a project-wide study was conducted in 2023 by Bould Consulting to firm up the cost estimates.

Why an arena?

The idea of building an ice rink in the middle of the Caribbean Sea may strike some as odd. However, the North American experience with developing civic entertainment districts has proven that such a facility creates a unique anchor around which sports, culture, and music entertainment can thrive. Football and Baseball stadiums are simply too large and costly where professional sport teams are absent. An arena can be built on a much smaller scale yet still meet the size demands of professional hockey and basketball teams. And, the same facility can easily be converted, in a matter of hours, to host any type of events where 10 000 to 15 000 participants can roam. Putting such an arena in George Town places it within less than an hour flight from major professional teams in Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, and Dallas – thus making it possible to host training camps and exhibition games. Finally, given the high number of residents who hail from Canada and the US, the arena becomes a daily or weekly destination for older players who simply love to play the game of hockey, and by training schools for children interested in hockey and figure skating.
